KRISTINE SCHOMAKER, INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED ARTIST, reached her personal best last week with her sale of her 500th piece of artwork, and none of her customers are able to touch any of them, at least not in this world. This is because these sales were made in Second Life, the virtual reality world, where she is known as Gracie Kendal. Her achievement puts her in the top tier of artists in that realm. She was recently named a Top Ten finalist in the Best of Second Life Art 2007, Best Artist in Creation Arts category.
"I have always been in awe of those who are selfless, strong, and authentic, because these are the dimensions of character needed, I believe, to shape our best future. My job as an artist is to express these qualities – things like passion, love, hope, patience, integrity and confidence – in a way that viewers will not just recognize but take in and allow to resonate with their own best selves.
My art is most inspired by everyday experiences: a sunrise, a story in the news, a strikingly-wrapped gift. A single image can trigger an idea that I expand and develop, whether from a magazine, art history or pop culture.
I think this happens because I love what life presents to us. I want people to see and feel, as I do, the aura that emanates from even the simplest things that constitute our experience of the world. I believe that life is too short. There are endless possibilities to what we can do." |
