Biography
My name is Jim Phillips. Born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1950, I have lived in a number of communities across North Carolina, but have spent the past 30 years living near the coast in Jacksonville, North Carolina. My formal education was a BS in Commercial Design, which has earned me a long and satisfying career. I retired in 2007 with 35 years in the education field as a graphic artist. Now I'm following my true passion as a painter. I have been painting and experimenting with different art mediums ever since my college years, however, over the past couple of decades I have become most comfortable with watercolors, acrylics, and pen and ink. I invite you to view my painting gallery. At this point in my life I seem to have an heightened sense of the everyday beauty that surrounds me. I've been blessed that I had opportunities to travel to many wondrous places around the world, even studied in Italy for a summer, but as I get older, I'm finding more interest in the beauty of things in my local community. You will discover that the majority of my paintings reflect scenes of nature. Yes, you will find the occasional portrait or commercial man made structure , but even they reflect the beauty of our human experience. I guess if there were a statement I wished to portray as a painter, it would be that we need to help protect nature's beauty (the beauty I so dearly love to paint) and that no one take it for granted
