What will the quality of the prints be?
We are often asked about the quality of the final product that is sent to our buyers. This is of genuine concern Printpop.com for two reasons. First, we believe in shipping a quality product. This is underscored by our 30-day, unconditional money-back guarantee to our customers.
The second (and perhaps the most important) quality concern is that of artist satisfaction. Being part of the artistic community, we understand the personal significance of an artist's work. It is not in anyone's interest to do a mediocre job in reproducing artwork.
It must be understood that Printpop.com does not create replicas. We create high-quality reproductions that may have minor variations from the original piece (color matching, for example, won't be exact). Our goal is to make your art economically accessible to the general public while paying tribute to the original piece. Rest assured, we make every attempt possible to create the best looking prints technology allows.
The single, most important factor in determining the quality of a final print is that of the original image. Images of work that are 'physically' created (i.e. paintings, drawings, etc.) are always captured by a camera of some kind. A high-resolution digital camera (4.0 megapixels or higher) taken in the correct light will produce good results (See 'Hints on taking Photographs of Paintings'). For the highest-quality reproductions, an artist may consider taking 35mm negatives/slides of his/her work in a studio setting. The film can then be scanned, saved to CD, and mailed to Printpop.com. Printpop.com can also scan film, free of charge. Simply send the developed film, your E-mail address, and a self-addressed stamped envelope (so we can return the film). A note about color matching. Every monitor has different settings, just like a television. Customers may receive prints that look different than what each person sees on his/her screen. Our posters are printed directly from the file that the artist uploads, and is true to that file.
Archival Printing
Our inks provides an extremely wide color gamut further assuring accurate reproduction. The ink, combined with the fine art canvas and papers we carefully select to offer, provide true archival prints that will last 100-125 years without shifting or fading. We print off of rolls that are as much as 100 feet long and are available in 24", 36" and 44" wide. We currently print on Photo Semigloss and Canvas, but dozens of other print surfaces will be available in the future.
